Copperopolis Town Square is that of a mixed-use town center with a pedestrian oriented retail focus. The architecture is historically sensitive, capturing the essence of the Sierra foothills gold country. The town consists of 30 buildings with a total of 233,000 square feet combined in one, two, and three story buildings. The focal point of the town is the "town square". On and off street parking, wide sidewalks, exaggerated roof extensions which cover most store fronts, and planting and rest areas, give the feeling of a true country town character.
The Town Square is located in Calaveras County, adjacent to Highway 4, which is the major entry point into the county from the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Calaveras County is in the center of the Central Sierras, positioned between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. Calaveras County contains several major lakes, rivers, and streams along with valleys from 100 feet in elevation to mountains that rise to 11,000 feet.
